How Russia’s glass industry leader is implementing a digital culture of continuous improvement with LEANWAVE
About the Project
Complex architectural projects—such as the towers of Moscow-City, the buildings of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the GES-2 Cultural Center, and many others—are consistently associated with MODERN GLASS. The company is a technological leader in flat glass processing, creating premium glass façades and interior solutions for iconic projects across Russia.

The highest standards of MODERN GLASS’s finished products and production efficiency are ensured, in part, through continuous process improvement, where employees constantly identify and analyze losses and then propose enhancements. This process is administratively complex, which led management to decide on implementing digital tools to manage improvements and foster a culture of production excellence.

A comprehensive solution was required—one that would be intuitive, scalable, and ready for effective use by the company’s staff. The choice fell on LEANWAVE, a flexible digital platform that meets all requirements for digitalizing continuous improvement management systems. Thus began MODERN GLASS’s journey of digital transformation with LEANWAVE.

Project Goal

Project Goal

Project Goal

At the start of the project, the company had three key goals:

  1. Provide digital support for the development of the continuous improvement management program.
  2. Ensure transparent monitoring of loss analysis activities (SEA) and the implementation of countermeasures.
  3. Evenly distribute workload among employees through a clear system for tracking current capacity.

Implementation

Implementation

The implementation of LEANWAVE was carried out in stages, from management to production teams:

  • Over 200 employees were trained.
  • First-level managers were trained first, followed by engineers and foremen, then team leaders and operators.
  • Office departments, from procurement to customer service, were gradually involved.

Collaboration is built on ongoing communication with LEANWAVE’s technical support, and MODERN GLASS’s suggestions for platform improvements are regularly incorporated into the digital product.

A single environment for developing problem-solving skills began to take shape. Execution culture improved, and data accessibility for management was enhanced.

Integrations

Integrating new IT solutions with existing systems is key to real efficiency: it ensures data continuity, reduces manual work, and makes digital tools a full part of business processes.

As part of this project, LEANWAVE was integrated with the 1C application. Now, team leaders fill out shift reports directly in the system, and foremen can view all information in real time—without duplication or manual entry. Data is automatically pulled from 1C, saving time and eliminating errors.

Like any large-scale project, the implementation faced challenges:
  • Adapting to a new level of transparency in tracking loss analyses, audit results, and related tasks took time, supported by training, instructions, and ongoing communication.
  • Data entry errors were addressed through standards and regular audits by the project team.

A few tips from MODERN GLASS for companies planning to implement LEANWAVE:
  1. Start gradually—with a pilot on a limited group.
  2. Adapt LEANWAVE’s instructions and training materials to the company’s existing operational processes.
  3. Assign a project team and a project curator.
  4. Train employees using real-life examples before the full system launch—this helps them master the functionality faster and work effectively from day one.
A very convenient platform: all outputs (projects, audits, and loss analyses) are stored digitally in standardized forms, and any employee can view the status, countermeasures, and responsible parties.

Today, LEANWAVE is actively used for:
  • Strategic planning
  • Loss analysis and monitoring of proposed solutions
  • Conducting audits of projects, improvement teams, and behavioral audits
  • Managing projects, pillars, and improvement teams
  • Collecting and analyzing statistics on key metrics

The platform has become part of the corporate culture. Employees have learned to work systematically with tasks, execution discipline has improved, and LEANWAVE data is actively used at the company’s management committee level.

Looking ahead, MODERN GLASS plans to:
  • Expand the use of the “Projects” module
  • Deepen problem analysis (SEA) in the “Loss Analysis” module
  • Implement the “Deviations” module
  • Enhance the skills management system using knowledge matrices in the “Skills” module
  • Prepare reference materials and checklists for teams
  • Provide production units with additional tablets for system access

For MODERN GLASS, LEANWAVE has become more than just a digital tool—it is a platform for cultural and organizational change. This is a story of how the combination of technology and a systematic approach helps even mature, efficiently running production processes evolve.
